Pakistani actor Adnan Siddiqui slams Kriti Sanon’s Akhiyaan De Kol in angry post

The makers of Kriti Sanon’s upcoming Netflix film Do Patti recently released the film’s song ‘Akhiyaan De Kol,’ a rehashed version of the iconic folk song by late Pakistani singer Reshma. The recreated version has drawn criticism on social media, with Pakistani actor Adnan Siddiqui calling it a ‘sordid ripoff’ of a ‘classic song by a legend.’
“Imitation can be flattering, but not when it means tearing apart a classic by a legend. Please show some respect for Reshma jee and the legacy she left behind. Her music deserves to be treated with the dignity it commands, not reduced to just another sordid ripoff,” Siddiqui wrote on X.
A few people echoed Siddiqui’s sentiment, with one comment on his post reading, “Thank you for saying this. What an obscene way to honor the legend that Reshma ji is (sic).” Another added, “Music will never be heard by those who are not dancing.”
The late Pakistani singer Reshma, who also sang popular songs like ‘Dama Dam Mast Kalandar’, ‘Hai O Rabba Nahin Lagda Dil Mera’, and ‘Lambi Judai’, added a soulful touch to composer Khan Muhammad and lyricist Sehrai Gurdas Puri’s original composition of “Ankhiyan Nu Rehen De Ankhiyan De Kol Kol.”

The song was first used in Hindi cinema by Raj Kapoor in the 1973 romantic drama Bobby as “Ankhyon Ko Rehne De Ankhyon Ke Aas Pass.” Lata Mangeshkar had sung the song. After that, it was reimagined by several musicians, including Pakistani songwriter Quratulain Baloch.
For Kriti Sanon’s Do Patti, the song has been recreated by music composer Tanishk Bagchi. It is sung by Shilpa Rao and written by Kausar Munir.

Do Patti, starring Kriti Sanon in a double role, will stream on Netflix on October 25. The film also stars Kajol, Tanvi Azmi, and Brijendra Kala. It marks Kriti Sanon’s debut in film production.
